Eastman Visiting Lectures

or Dr. Schacher and the Little Orthodontists Who Can

Home Away from Home

I have always taken great pleasure in visiting my alma mater Eastman Dental Center — or The Eastman Institute for Oral Health as it is now known — and I consider it a great honour to have been asked to teach the young aspiring orthodontists there.  As a visiting lecturer at Eastman since 200? blah blah

let’s see about ligatures.  lulz.  five.  office.

“Have you heard the story of the five blind men and the elephant?”

Time for Class

We often gather in a small room and keep the lectures interactive.  There is much discussion which arises from most any topic, and unsurprising I take something new away from these young minds each time I visit.

My focus when performing these lectures is to reiterate the importance of The Family Orthodontist.  Each one of these students is about to dedicate their lives to orthodontics, and if I can make one thing clear to them it is the importance of helping families:  mothers, fathers, children, grandchildren.  An orthodontist is responsible to all family members blah blah.

Students are quite curious about is how an individual orthodontist will plan treatment for any given patient.  On this particular visit, two students asked me how I would proceed with a patient who blah blah.

One of the benefits of working at Eastman is that I have a strong connection with the faculty members.  Dr Ross Tallents runs a TMJ program at Eastman.  He is one of the preeminent scholars of TMJ Disfunction in the world and his insight has provided me with blah blah.
